   Pierre Oulevay
Faithful to himself, Pierre Oulevay continues on his trajectory, exploring the fragility of the paper and the resistance of the stone.

On a paper of great fineness, sometimes granulated, the artist is playing with the transparencies, tames the lines, refines the space, and intensifies the contrasts essentially situated between whites, blacks and anthracites, sometimes haloed with tons of rust or beige, with an infinite know-how.

The present work of Pierre Oulevay is strong, mineral, inscribed into the rock beaten by time, water, winds… With passion the artist works with an impetuous material which, little by little calms down and settles down on the paper. With power and easiness, cultivating as usual the extremes and the tensions, although the work is feeding itself between lightness, delicate shades and audacious opposites, the artist traces, marks, erases, cuts, files, caresses, observes, softens for a while… then restarts again the movement, the trace, the stump, sometimes with violence and abandons it in its total vigour, in its full raising, to suddenly drop it naked.

More refined as ever, the work of Pierre Oulevay is a mineral spring, either through the paper works than the ones cut into black marble of St Triphon or white Greek marble. In his new studio in Attalens, invaded with light, breathing quietness and surrounded by an astonishing variety of stones, the artist has indeed renewed with sculpture. In a tight dialogue with the works on paper and the paintings, the new sculptures, suggesting furtive presences, marked with deep incisions revealing subtitle games of lights and shadows, respond to the vein of experience, expressed here in its whole wideness. Beauty, the exact gesture, between dream and reality, affirmation and smoothness, exacerbated sensibility and professionalism, impregnated with intense sensuality, it is a writing recognizable among all, an ensemble – works on paper, paintings and sculptures -, in which the artist delivers his passion, his desires and gives the measure of them, expressed in a writing of time with appealing calligraphies.

Pierre Oulevay, a sculptor and a painter, born in 1944, lives and works in Switzerland.
